With the weather in Austin, it’s comfortable to spend time outdoors for 9-10 months of the year. The unheralded perk to this fact is we can easily increase the livable space of our homes by building a great patio in the back yard – a perfect spot for alfresco dining, conversations around a crackling fire, or honing your pitmaster chops. Read on to discover how to choose the perfect flooring for your Austin patio!
Start With Your Patio’s Purpose
It may seem simple and obvious, but the first step is to think about how you want to use your patio. If you are not going to use the new space you are creating, you are not increasing the livable space of your home.
Here’s what we mean: if you are looking to build a fire pit in your backyard, you probably want a patio that is durable, easy to clean, and looks like it fits in naturally. For that type of patio, natural stone paver tiles can be a great option.
If you have a covered patio near in the house and you love the idea of eating dinner outside, a stone mosaic in a parquet style might be the perfect way to accentuate the feel of an outdoor dining room.
Look at Others Are Doing
This isn’t something you need to dream up on your own! Google (or search Instagram, Pinterest, etc – whichever platform you prefer) to your heart’s content and find images of a space that feels the way you want yours to feel.
Bring those pictures in as well as pictures of your space when you visit our showroom. Nine times out of ten, we have something aesthetically similar to what you find high-end designers using at a fraction of the price per square foot. We might make some recommendations based on your property, but we’ll also encourage you to take a sample to see how it looks in the light in your yard.
Other Aspects to Consider
It’s important to discuss certain details before you start your project. For example: pavers are typically more permeable than tile, so water will get through. This is great if you have trees with root systems you want to preserve, but ff the base underneath isn’t prepped properly, you could get cracks as the ground settles and the roots grow.
Then, once you’re confident in your choice, we can schedule the installation.
