When you think of stone flooring do you picture a medieval castle, or maybe a cathedral? Just because natural stone flooring is great on a grandiose scale doesn’t mean you can’t have it for your home as well. One of the things that makes it great is how it stands the test of time! Here are our picks for some awesome natural stone floors for your home, or your personal castle if you prefer to think of it that way.
Limestone
This is Texas, so we might as well start off strong with a stone that is quarried right here in our own backyards. Most limestone will be in a lighter color palette from natural white to beige. There are some sources for limestone in less common shades of tan, brown, and gray. It is also available in a range of textures, so it’s a good choice whether you want a near-marble finish or something more rustic. One of the coolest properties of limestone is that it is naturally resistant to mold and bacteria. This makes it great for any area including those with lots of moisture, or even outdoors.
Slate
If your goal is a darker color palette in stone, consider slate. It is a very porous material which makes it great for outdoor areas, showers, or anywhere with high humidity. It’s important to note though that it’s porous nature also makes it more susceptible to staining especially if it comes into contact with an acidic substance. Slate is also one of the more budget-friendly natural stone options.
Granite
Looking for a wide variety of colors and patterns? Granite has them. It is also a very durable stone for flooring and can stand up to even the busiest entryways and kitchens. This is truly the workhorse of natural stone flooring.
Marble
Nothing says opulent like marble, so you might as well go with the real deal. It comes in a wide range of colors and patterns so we can find the right slab to fit into any interior design plan. The only downside of marble is that it is softer than the other stones we’ve mentioned. This means it will show wear and tear more quickly, especially in areas with heavy foot traffic.
