We always say that one of the best things about being in the business of flooring is that there’s always something for everyone. If you’re looking for something unique to give your home some special character, we have a few ideas. There are so many options available within traditional flooring products that most people aren’t looking beyond those to the more distinctive, modern possibilities. But we’re so here for it when we have a client who wants to create a one-of-a-kind look with their flooring. Let’s take a look beyond the conventional options.
You Can Be Super Sustainable
It’s very “in” to be eco-friendly. That doesn’t mean you can’t have flooring made from natural materials.
If you love the natural, warm look and feel of hardwood flooring, but want to put a spin on it cork floors fit the bill. Cork flooring is made from the bark of cork oak trees. The trees are not harmed during the harvesting process and will regrow their bark making this option one of the most sustainable out there. You get a look that is somewhat like hardwood, but with a more cushioned feel. It’s also great at insulation – thermal and acoustic – so it’s a great choice for bedrooms and living areas. Bamboo flooring is also a popular choice as a more sustainable alternative to hardwood, but it has been very tricky to source since the pandemic. Since it is made from a fast-growing grass and can be harvested without killing the plant itself bamboo is a great choice if you want to be eco-friendly. Bamboo has varied styles and finishes and grain patterns with a lot of character. It’s also durable and moisture resistant.
Unexpected Aesthetics
Concrete is no longer just for patios, pavers, and subflooring. Turns out it is a versatile and stylish option with a minimalist look that looks good with a wide variety of design vibes. It can be polished, stamped, and stained to create a myriad of textures and finishes. If you want durable, cool, and easy to maintain you should consider concrete.
If you really want to get unconventional look at leather flooring. It is a very luxe and unique option. We’ll be the first to tell you it’s not for everyone, but if you love it you will really love it. Available in both tiles and planks, the leather should be treated to improve its overall durability. It will still develop a patina over time, but that’s part of its sophisticated charm.
