One of the most common questions that comes up when we’re working either on a new build home or replacing the floors throughout a home is whether bedrooms should have carpet. There is no wrong answer here. There are plenty of factors to consider though, and some questions you’ll have to ask yourself.
Carpet is Not a Curse Word!
Carpeting can retain allergens, but regular cleaning and upkeep will minimize that concern. It wasn’t so long ago that wall to wall carpeting throughout a home was considered the height of fashion, but the design police have swung the pendulum back to wood and tile flooring. But that doesn’t mean that you have to have hard flooring in every room.
Carpeted bedrooms are still cozy. The soft flooring helps dampen sound which is especially good for children or light sleepers. It’s also nice to put your feet on soft carpet first thing in the morning, particularly when it’s chilly outside. Another thing to consider is overall cost, and carpeted bedrooms can be a way to save some money. The price range of carpet is so wide that the cost is impossible to estimate accurately until you’ve chosen a product.
Choosing the Right Product for Your Home
There are so many choices. The height and density of the pile, the material, how the fibers are cut. If sustainability is important to you, there are more and more carpets coming out that are almost entirely made of recycled materials – and they happen to be some of the most stain resistant options on the market.. Some companies are working toward more eco-friendly materials and production methods, and we can work with you to find those.
Considering resale value is a good idea, even if you’re not planning to move anytime soon. Try to look at any choices through the eyes of a potential buyer. Some manufacturers provide different types and lengths of warranty. A durable product with a good warranty is ideal. One that will continue to look plush and have the durability to stand up to regular cleaning is ideal. Higher density carpets will cost a bit more but will keep their cozy look and feel longer.
