Is carpet out?
Carpet wasn’t ever truly “out” in our opinion. They came up big back in the day because old hardwood floors had to be stripped and waxed on a daily basis. Carpet was warmer and required less maintenance.
However, with hardwood floors becoming easier to maintain (and easier to clean) we’ve seen a rise in homes making the most of all the types of wood floors that are out there. That isn’t to say that carpet is out of style. In fact, plenty of places have been arguing that carpet is back in a big way for years now.
If you’re looking to put in new carpet or upgrade what you already have, here’s what you need to know for a great new look and feel.
Benefits
Sound dampening
One great benefit of carpet is that it helps dampen noises that would otherwise bounce off of hardwood floors. This sound dampening quality can be great for living rooms, bedrooms and multi-story residences where you want to limit how much sound travels.
Energy efficiency
During colder months, carpets can retain heat, which in turn helps you reduce energy consumption. While you may not notice it immediately, in the long-run, carpets can have a positive effect on your energy bills.
Maintenance & durability
Modern-day carpets are more long-lasting and durable than a lot of their older counterparts. And there are plenty of carpet types that are perfect for high-traffic areas such as:
- Nylon
- Olefin
- Polyester
- Wool
Carpet trends for 2024
Carpets may not be out of style, but that doesn’t mean new trends don’t come and go with the times. Here are three carpet trends that may be perfect for your home.
Earthy tones
A neutral or earthy palette can give you a great baseline to explore with additional palettes, furniture and features. We don’t just mean your classic ‘90s cream either. You can go with bold browns or grays that can make the rest of your room pop right up.
Nostalgic vibes
Where once things were outdated, now they’re “vintage” or “nostalgic.” Spruce up a high-traffic area with a classic carpet design, like tartan or one with a vibrant floral pattern. Some homes are sticking with minimalist or modern design styles, but that doesn’t have to always be the case.
Textured carpets
Carpeting can come with different textures, sizes and heights. Now, when we say textured carpet, think less ‘70s shag and more modern, like berber or ones with variable height patterns.
