There is a lot that goes into the planning and completion of a flooring renovation. One thing that we find people don’t always consider is what happens once all the choices have been made and it’s time for the actual installation to start. We get it! There’s so much to do beforehand that it’s easy to forget to think about the logistics. Whether or not you and your family will remain in your home during the process is probably the detail that gets overlooked the most.
Floor Renovations are Messy!
It would be great if we could remove your old floor and put in the new one without creating any dust or debris, but unfortunately, we can’t. We know the idea of moving out during your remodel might seem overwhelming. However, that is the ideal situation – for your family and your project. Our crews can be much more efficient with both demo and install if your home is temporarily a construction environment.
Cost is understandably a factor in this equation. It may seem like staying elsewhere will be an added expense. However, making sure your home is safe for your family at the end of each day would also add to your bottom line. In order to do this, your crew has to stop work earlier than usual each day and spend time cleaning. This means that your project will take longer, and more man hours means a higher price tag. Figuring in the cost of temporary relocation is the best approach as it allows us to complete work as efficiently as possible. It is usually the most cost-effective as well.
Every Job is Different
There isn’t one answer that is true for every project because the circumstances are always different. If we are only doing floors in select areas that you can easily avoid during the process it may be workable for you to stay with minimal disruptions. That being said, we stand by it being easier for everyone for you to not live in your home during a full floor renovation.
There are a lot of factors to consider, and we’re always willing to discuss options with you. Our goal is always to make every renovation as easy for our clients as we can. If it is possible and you choose to not temporarily relocate keep in mind that this will increase the timeline for your project since consideration for your family will be a priority over peak efficiency.
